Extra-Curricular Activities
BASKETBALL (9th grade only) Boys and girls competitive basketball teams schedule play beginning in November and culminating with the District Tournament in February. A health form and eligibility status is required.
BEAR PAWS TEAM (Advisor: Mr. Noyce)
BEAR PAWS is a Service & Leadership Development team that focuses on the principles of Building Enthusiasm, Allegiance, Positive Attitudes, and Work & Service.
7th, 8th, and 9th graders who submit an application provide service and leadership assistance for PTSA events or activities; welcome new students, help keep our school clean, show appreciation to teachers and faculty, and participating in a variety of other service oriented projects within the Timberline community.
CHESS ACTIVITY Starting October and going until February, the Chess Team will meet every Wednesday after school in the Media Center. Chess Team members are invited to participate in three school tournaments and are notified of other regional tournaments.
ROBOTICS GROUP (Advisor: Mr. Wood) A team to build and program a robot in the First Tech Challenge and compete against other students! No experience needed. Meet in Mr. Wood’s room (D116) Wednesday’s at 2:45-4:00. Contact Mr. Wood at [email protected] with questions.
DEBATE (Advisor: Ms. Crotts) All grades are invited to meet every Tuesday. Students will be introduced to general speech organization, parliamentary procedures and some of the events on the high school debate circuit. Students will also practice researching and will participate in practice debates.
GRIZZLY GROWL – Student Newspaper Students with interest and talent in writing skills produce the school newspaper, which is published quarterly and distributed to the faculty and student body. All grades invited. Beginning in November, they will meet every Thursday in room B209 at 3:00.
IMPROV TEAM (Advisor: Mr. Fortie). This team works together to provide an experience for students who love drama and want to use their improvisation skills. Students participate during some school assemblies and in evening performances. Students must audition for the improve team. Auditions are held at the end of every school year and are open to all students.
MYTHOLOGY TOURNAMENT (Advisor: Mr. Nelson). This one-day activity is held after school in November. It is a competition for students who know their mythology and want to test their knowledge against other students.
UNDER THE RUG (Advisor: Mrs. Jorgensen) Meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 3:00 in Ms. Lacey’s room, D118. It is a Pinterest-inspired group that creates crafts using various creative outlets such as painting, drawing, scrapbooking, crocheting, cross-stitching, etc.
TENNIS INTRAMURALS (fall) Open to all grades. This program runs for 6 weeks in September and October each Tuesday and Thursday (weather permitting) from 3-4 p.m. Equipment is provided and students work on skills, rules, etiquette, and match play.
TRACK (spring) (advisors: Mr. Wood and Miss Barksdale) District wide track and field competition begins in the spring for all 7th, 8th, and 9th graders interested in competing in running events, shot put, high jump, and long jump. A health form and eligibility status is required.
CROSS COUNTRY (fall) (advisors: Mr. Wood and Miss Barksdale) Fall sport for all students grade 7-9 who are interested in distance running from 1-3 miles. 2 days a week practice, 1 day a week meets.
ULTIMATE MATH GROUP (Advisor: Mr. Busby, Mrs. Robertson) Will start in October 5th @7:30 am. State contest in March.
KNOWLEDGE BOWL (Advisor: Fine Arts Dept.) Start October 7 at 3 Room will be announced. Open to all grades. Knowledge bowl is an academic competition program. It is a great showcase for students with special talent and drive to work quickly with memorized facts and concepts in the spirit of friendly competition. The program culminates with teams competing in the annual district sponsored Knowledge Bowl tournament held in March.
